I see he's decided to go off the standard route and take a more direct line at Handies' summit ridge

CD was 1:04:53 to completion of Handies. That would correspond to AH getting back to the trailhead at 9:23. Or to summit 8:17, since that is easier to see on the tracking page.

Yeah, glad to see Andrew heading up that way toward Handies. I did that route, and I suspect Cave Dog did as well. It's very efficient.

Looks like Andrew completed Sneffels around 4:47 am: 2:07 up, 3:51 roundtrip (approximate times). Total time at that point was around 24:17 for Andrew, 23:24 for me, 22:34 for Cave Dog.

Looks like he started Handies around 7:08, so 2:21 after finishing Sneffels. I was around 2:44 for that transition. Cave Dog was 3:06. Sweet! Andrew made up some time there.

Try this Google Map. You have to page through the points 200 at a time.

Sunshine/Redcloud reports of trail conditions from the last 6 days look promising for Andrew.

Did he indicate his intended route? Reports suggest some snow remains in the upper Basin (and I would imagine even more so in the South Fork drainage off Sunshine).

Might shake out where he can get a mostly snow-free ascent and MAYBE pick a glissade line for part of the descent to make up some time.

He just climbed from 11,665' to 12,361 in 30 minutes... that is almost 1,400' per hour and pretty close to CD's average climb rate at this point. John it looks like you knocked off 1,800' an hour on Handies which is just mind blowing! Someone check my math here?

Edit: New marker shows him moving from 12,361' to 12,953' in 20 minutes... that's just shy of 1,800' an hour!

Anyway I can find out around what time will you be starting up Pikes via Crags TH? I would be happy to come by and cheer you on in my backyard.
I was planning a night summit of Pikes that weekend. I would be happy to summit with Andrew if possible.

You know it takes (2) major attributes to go after something like this:
1) The physical talent
2) The nerd talent for planning, numbers, details, times, perfection, exactness, and of course, reporting all of those numbers, data, etc.. \:D/

I got the second one myself, not quite at the requisite level on #1 though.

Classic examples: Cave Dog, Homie, Andrew, and if anyone has seen the stuff from Matt Carpenter (same geeky statistics personality).

Love it!

I think the biggest attribute all these guys have in common is the propensity to be able to suffer for long periods of time which is mind boggling. Hoping Andrew keeps the momentum going! Love watching stuff like this.

Great start so far. Between the pursuit of the 14er record, the World Cup, and the upcoming Tour De France, I just might make it to football season!

Go Andrew!
