Regarding a celebration party at the finish with the potential for this party to go viral (with a hot tub and all :-D ) . . .

This is just my two cents, but unless you are a friend of John's, I believe you should stay away from the finish and let John celebrate this achievement with his close friends and family. Some people like large weddings with lots of hoopla and partying, and some people prefer small weddings to be shared with family and a few close friends. Looking at John's online activity, I believe he's a fairly private person who would prefer to share this accomplishment with his closest friends and family.

Lori Prater knows John best, and unless she says otherwise (or one of John's better friends says otherwise), I think it would be best to assume John would like to share the moment with his family and closest friends only.

To the extent this has become a public event and John has inspired you and you wish to congratulate him, if you don't know John, I think sending him a private message would be best.

Like I said, just my two cents, and a reasonable assumption unless it's posted otherwise . . .

To the best of my knowledge:

* Jason hiked with Homie all today. They did Missouri-Belford-Oxford-Harvard-Columbia, and are back at the car now.
* Andy, who hiked with Homie yesterday, will accompany him tonight and tomorrow, but has to leave in the afternoon.
* Wes, who hiked Quandary with him, will rejoin at some point tomorrow afternoon.
* Stefan, Jon, Ben, and Mark will hike the various Elks with him.
* I'm not positive who has been driving today. Probably Gerry and Jennifer still; maybe Ken or one of the above hikers.
* George will join Saturday or Sunday to drive and/or hike.

I believe they plan to print up a deck of playing cards with all the names and faces to help everyone keep them straight. The four aces will be pictures of John himself, with a different pink article of clothing for each.

It looks like he is skipping out on Yale. Interesting turn of events. It could be that Jason took his SPOT on accident though!

Gotta drive around to the Denny Creek trailhead. If he's sleeping right now, he's probably still ahead of Cave Dog's pace for this group of peaks.

Edit: he might have saved a little time by doing it from the Yale-Columbia saddle, but not that much. Cave Dog's logs show the saddle at 10360' versus the Denny Creek TH at 9900'. Since there is a trail from Denny Creek, that'll save a lot of time - especially in the dark. The lost time would come from having to descend from that 10360' to wherever they were able to get picked up. Even so, Cave Dog took over 5 hours from the saddle to Denny Creek, which was probably due to going off-trail in the dark. Homie and Andy can probably get up and back faster than that. Considering his definite level of sleep deprivation and fatigue, Homie's on-trail decisions have been remarkably good.

But he could have climbed it from that side at kept a lot of altitude. Yes once he went down to the car it would make sense to drive around. I just was not expecting him to give up the altitude.

Seems reasonable to do Yale separately after what they came through today. The trail up Yale will go quickly, would have been tough to head up the talus in the dark from Horn Fork Basin. He can now get some rest, food, and head up the trail with a new partner. It will be interesting to see how long they rest. He's gotta be tired, but does need to get Yale done at a decent time if indeed he tackles Holy Cross, Massive, and Elbert tomorrow. I wonder if he's had time for a hot shower? Doubtful, but that would feel wonderfully refreshing. I'm sure Ken has offered.

Just looking at Spot again, seems to be parked in suburban Buena Vista. Not sure where Ken lives exactly, but that would be close. Perhaps the team is convening there. Maybe Homie could get a few hours sleep on a real bed and a shower?

The fun continues, approaching the one week mark in just a few hours...

Amazing day, Jason. Any chance of a trip report!?

When you left, he was descending to N Cottonwood? Or did you carry the SPOT out with you...?

Homie is the man period. I ran into him as I was downclimbing Antero. The fact that I got the meet Homie and Gerry Roach.....I was giddy as a schoolgirl. This photo was taken on tuesday, and Homie had done 31 peaks by this point. Homie is the man, and that's not up for argument. But his crew is also awesome for what they do.
