Favorite Beer?

Kinda curious. How many others here do trades with folks around the country? I have four others I do trades with (North Dakota, Michigan, New York & North Carolina). Works pretty good too!

What do you get from North Dakota that is unique? ND beers or also MN and MT?

Drekker makes some the BEST fruited sours, fruited smoothie sours & fruited IPA's I've ever had. Amazingly, I found a small selection at Hazel's in Boulder.
And Blackstack makes DIPA's and TIPA's that I would put up against Cerebral and Weldwerks.

The app, Untappd is worth its weight in malt & barley!

Nice! Thanks for the share, I'll look for some Drekker and Blackstack next time I'm up there. I think I have only had one Drekker before. If you can, keep an eye out for my buddy's brewery, Atypical Brewery & Barrelworks. I like his beers and not trying to be too biased. I also like some Buffalo Commons beers out fo Mandan.

The Pliny he speaks of was purchased in Denver by me. He's wrong only that I haven't packed yet.
Russian River doubled production of Pliny a while ago. Since then, it's been consistently available in Denver on tap and in bottles.
IDK whether that's reached San Miguel County. Maybe make some calls to Gunnison? Over the years, that town has seemed to have a line on out-of-state beers not available further south in CO, for whatever reason.

As far as trading goes, the Pilgrim is my only go-to. I just use Untappd like LoJ, not like Facebook and most of the ppl I know there are from this site and live in CO.

What are y'all drinking these days? 90% of the time, I'm drinking IPAs.

IPA drinkers, do you prefer West Coast or New England style IPAs? I find West Coast IPAs to be a lot more consistent in palatability. New England IPAs, there are some fantastic ones, and then some real stinkers.

Lastly, if you purchase a 6 pack of cans, do you make sure to drink the IPA from the can as Alchemist Beer insists is the way to do it (at least with Hedy Topper and some of their other beers), or do you always pour it into a glass?

All the real beer drinkers seem to prefer IPAs but they’re just too much brew for me. I have a hard time with the spicy taste and high ABV.

I do enjoy lighter ales and my current favorites are Big Wave Golden Ale, Fire Rock Pale Ale, and Blonde Ale from Kona Brewing.

As to cans, I avoid them at all cost. It’s bottles or no beer for me. Not sure why maybe because I grew up in the south surrounded by rednecks drinking Budweiser in cans and tossing the empties out the windows of their trucks. I’ve had brewers tell me beer tastes better from cans but I suspect they want to move production to cans because it’s cheaper. Always follow the money. Ska True Blonde was my favorite beer for many years but all production is now in cans which I won’t buy.

For me, it's impossible to have a favorite beer. I generally go for IPA's but rotate through Stouts and lighter beers (hefeweizen or saison).

What's been in my beer fridge this year?

IPA: Hop Peak, Titan, India Pale Ale, All Day IPA

Stout: Sad Panda, Breakfast Stout, Guinness

Lighter: Colette Farmhouse Ale, Paulaner Hefeweizen

I feel this. Zwei makes an incredible pilsner. Pivo by Firestone Walker is really good too, glad to see Tap & Handle here in FC has brought that back to their regular rotation.

I also used to avoid beer in cans. Back in the day, few good beers were canned, and I always assumed that the metal would affect the taste. Nowadays, I rarely buy beer in bottles. Here's why:
1) The "good beer comes in bottles/bad beer comes in cans" is almost the exact opposite of that. Most craft beers come in cans only.
2) Cans are so much lighter and take up so much less space, both in my beer fridge and in my cooler. Plus, they are a lot cheaper to transport for the breweries and distributors, meaning they should cost the consumer less, and are better for the environment (significantly less fuel cost).
3) Aluminum does not effect the taste of the beer. The cans have special lining to prevent that. You can always pour into a glass if you feel better about it.
4) Perhaps the best reason for switching from bottles to cans is the fact that UV rays ruin beer. Clear and green bottles are the worst. Ever wonder why imports like Heineken and St. Pauli Girl often taste "skunked?" That's why. Brown bottles do a much better job of filtering out UVs, but a can filters out ALL light, and therefore your beer will stay fresh and unskunked for a long, long time.

I'm a home brewer, and I bottle rather than keg my brews. And I age and store my homebrew in a dark crawl space to avoid skunking. Other than that, I probably drink canned beer 95% of the time. Give it a try! You're missing out on a lot of good beers by avoiding cans.

Nothing from the beer drinkers in years? Well, I am a fan of strong IPA, bitter is better.

But here is one that gets honorable mention.
