Holy crap. I mean, literally, "holy crap." Never heard of this guy, but per DemocraticUnderground:

  • In 1978, a mystic informed Hanne and Maurice Strong that "the Baca would become the center for a new planetary order which would evolve from the economic collapse and environmental catastrophes that would sweep the globe in the years to come." The Strongs say they see the Baca, which they call 'The Valley Of the Refuge Of World Truths ,'" as the paradigm for the entire planet and say that the fate of the earth is at stake. Shirley MacLaine agrees - her astrologer told her to move to the Baca, and she did. She is building a New Age study center at the Baca where people can take short week-long courses on the occult! Apparently, the Kissingers, the Rockefellers, the McNamaras, the Rothschild's, and other Establishment New World Order elitists all agree as well, for they do their pilgrimage to the Baca - where politics and the occult - the New World Order and the New Age - all merge. Watch Maurice Strong and watch the Baca!

Thanks for the name-drop, Shaunster. I had never heard of this guy, and I don't know if he's connected or not either, but it makes a great story.

So maybe we're approaching Armageddon, and Crestone is the new Shangri-La (at least for rich folks like the MacLaines, Kissingers, Rockefellers, McNamaras and Rothschilds)... and the New World/New Age Order people just need a catchier name for their "altar!" After all... a pilgrimage to "Kit Carson." Well that ain't fittin'. That just ain't fittin'! Now "Tranquility Point"... I think I can sell tickets to that.

I have to admit, all this New World Order stuff is so ridiculous that it gave me a stomach ache from laughing so hard... but, if there's any truth to it - if the petition to rename Kit Carson Mountain/Peak to "Crestone Mountain," backed by the historical "error" - is just a cover for the *real* objective of renaming the peak "Tranquility Peak" to satisfy the spiritual (not to mention financial) desires of a religious cult, then that's truly disturbing. And outrageous.

Who calls a mountain and its summit by two different names?

I hope someone in the media has the gonads to follow up on *that* story...

I may not be the most accomplished climber on this site. IN fact, I am not. But I am great at solving problems, or at least giving people ideas on how to solve problems. And this, my friends, is a serious problem. So, here goes: 3 possible solutions...

1. Short-rope Pat Bowlen and haul his butt up to the summit. Have him stand on the top, drive an ice axe into the ground and yell, "This one's for John!" And thereby rename it John Elway Motors Needle. Anyone who successfuly summits gets $500 cash back on a new car. And be sure the town of Crestone gets a small cut of each car sold under this new stimulus program.

2. Change the name of the town of Crestone to Kit Carson City. They can open up a museum in honor of Kit Carson and watch the dollars come a rollin in. Awwwwwww yeeeaaahhhh.

3. Just keep calling it Kit Carson Mountain. Or peak. You know what I mean.
Because life's too short to be an indoor cat.

As ridiculous as options #1 and #2 might be, I definitely prefer them to allowing a religious cult to rename the peak. I'm sure their ample budget would allow them to create their *own* custom maps, on their *own* dime, to plug into their *own* websites, pamphlets, and presentations, where they can name anything whatever they want. I'm sure they could come up with a clever campaign to continue separating rich, dumb folks from their wallets - with fear, religion, and a promise of eternal salvation - and without expecting everyone else to cater to their idiocy.

This is a slippery slope folks... so while it may appear that I'm making a mountain out of a molehill, if we allow a private entity to rename a 14er - what's next?

Susan, option 2 isn't ridiculous. It's brilliant! (Absolutely brilliant!) We ought to take a vote on that. You introduced the first poll, why don't you take the honor of opening a poll on renaming Crestone to Kit Carson City?

I suspect that half the people reading this thread are conjuring up images of Kit Carson Creamery, Kit Carson Cafe, Kit Carson Cookery and Brewery... and the other half are screaming, "Don't encourage her!"

I'll have to think about that one, DeTour. At best, it would give the *real* people of Crestone an alternative to accepting "nutty money" to make ends meet. At worst, it might invoke enough "bad vibes" to encourage the "New World Order" to find a new location for "The Valley Of the Refuge Of World Truths." Crap, I can't even *write* that without laughing!!

BTW - this reminds me of that Twilight Zone episode, "The Shelter," parodied by the Simpsons in "Bart's Comet." I wonder if the New World Order has seen those yet...

Well I guess what others see as perfectly normal in their reality... is frightening. If you allow a slippery slope such as this to continue every named and unnamed peak in the state will have personal [read: religious] or corporate meanings.

It may seem okay in one community's twisted paradigm to do that, but welcome to the real world. I mean, if Turkey's had their way...

Nobody is allowing a private entity to rename a 14er. A private entity is simply expressing its opinion on what a government agency should do regarding the naming of a particular peak -- which is exactly what this very thread is doing.

Take Andrew Jackson off the $20.

Seriously, once we start down this path, where does it stop?
Great post and I couldn't agree more. Enough of this political correct garbage. That's part of what's helping to destroy the America we all love.

c'mon, you know you want to. It would be fun, and fun is good.

Plus if you're really concerned about news coverage, you know it would help get the point across if we voted to rename the town. You know how those things work in the media.

I would start it, but I don't have the resume. It needs your gravitas.
