Re: My 14er record attempt
Sorry to see it end but I am inspired by your efforts. Thanks for being such a bright spot this last week, and as someone said earlier - kudos on a valiant effort. You are incredible and I so admire people who shoot for the stars
Can we drive any higher?

Disappointing for you, I'm sure, but what an amazing feat for the rest of us. I was riveted from the moment your SPOT moved in Chicago Basin.
Thank you for this great inspirational journey! I wish you the best on your future endeavors. Have a GREAT weekend with the family!
Hope I have the honor of meeting you or any of your crew/partners one day.

Re: My 14er record attempt
My heart sunk in my chest when I heard the news. Because I know Homie was trying so hard and giving everything he had to this attempt, with the goal of finishing and breaking the record. This weekend we are heading into the Elks. We're hoping to get 1-2 peaks, a far cry from the traverse he was planning.
And yes, this also highlights the inhuman efforts by CaveDog to finish this massive task. I don't think I previously had the proper respect for the record. I'm happy to say this thread has opened my eyes to the dreams of possibility.
Good effort Homie. You're a winner in my book. Much respect and admiration to you and your efforts.

Re: My 14er record attempt
Wow! Homie gave it a great run. We were looking forward to cheering him on this weekend. Over this last week we watched an amazing performance. The Wilsons in the rain. The scare on the Crestones. The Little Bear – Blanca traverse. The mega traverse in the Sawatch. Most of us would consider even half of one of those days to be an epic of a lifetime.
Well done John. I look forward to bumping into you on another summit.
Cave Dog’s record still stands as too bad ass to be topped just yet!

I know he probably just wants to go home, BUT, I'd be happy to buy him as many beers as he wants at the Eddyline first. A big three cheers to Homie in any event. Just what he accomplished the first day was mind boggling!

Re: My 14er record attempt
John, you did good. You captured the imagination of an entire community. For a solid week we cheered for you, plotted for you, urged you on to greatness. But most of all we watched in awe as you poured your heart into a nearly impossible task.
More important than bagging all the peaks is the outstanding way you went about your achievement--humbly, quietly, characteristically understated. For seven magic days, you made us think about what might be possible for us. You helped us realize what we might be capable of as we push ourselves to become our best selves. You are not the Colorado 14er record holder--better, you are an inspiration to all who know you.
I could not be more proud of you at this moment, John. You are the man of the hour. Here's to you, and to the world that you represent--a world of friendship, love, determination, and civility.
Go and give your wife and girls a hug. No matter how sorry we are to lose you, they will be as happy to have you home.

Great job Homie! You're an inspiration. While you didn't break the record this year, there is always next summer! Best to stop and avoid permanent injury...
