I might be able to rig up a test with my InReach tonight, send a message from my deepfreeze, leave it there for 10 minutes or so and then bring it outside. I will see if the timestamp is prefreeze or not.
I suppose just noting the time I hit send and what the timestamp comes in at will do, without the deepfreeze.
The conclusion is: The timestamp is set when you punch the send button not when it is actually sent, so Bad Dads "I am on a summit" messages should show the actual time he was there.
At first I tested while outside in good coverage, the messages went through in ~30 seconds so it wasn't a good test. I then sent from inside my house thinking the roof would block the signal, not so, went through in 30 seconds again. At 5:18 I sent from my refrigerator, the red LED was flashing meaning I did not have a signal. At 5:30 I put it outside, it took 2 minutes before it sent. The message however read it was sent at 5:18.
Who's the whack climbin' kid
That's a steps machine for all the peaks?
BAD DAD!
Ya damn right.
You know, they say this guy Andrew is a bad mother
SHUT YOUR MOUTH!
I'm talkin' 'bout BAD DAD.
THEN WE CAN DIG IT!

What's the TH Andrew's using for San Luis? West Willow Creek (Creede) would seem to be better than Stewart Creek for driving to Culebra. But West Willow Creek will add 2 miles of hiking vs. Stewart Creek (but it's quite pleasant)
[ EDIT: SJ Ron posted Andrew's itinerary on the FB site. West Willow Creek it is. ]

Really cool they shared this with you. Looks like he is running a bit over an hour over schedule (and a bit more over an hour behind CD) but since his plan has him beating the record by 15 hours I guess he can give up an hour a day from here on out and still set a record. GO BAD DAD GO!

Looks like he is doing San Luis from the Creede side, as mentioned above. Cave Dog did it from Stewart Creek, and I recall John Prater did also.
His schedule calls for him to finish the San Juans (W Willow TH) in 49:45. Looks like he is an hour or two behind schedule. The schedule has him finishing all CO 14ers in 10:00:40.

Looks like he has plenty of band aids in one of his close ups and Maybe a pain killer or 2. Is he having any foot issues? He's looking like a BAD DAD! Go BAD DAD!
What a great start for the first two days, on his way to Wetterhorn right now. Hopefully that won't be too hard in the dark. SJ Ron, you are so awesome to meet up with everyone and entertain the kids with fishing. Thanks for your FB posts as well. Really cool sign on your ATV.
Go Andrew! Hopefully you can get some good rest on the way to San Luis and finish the San Juan range tonight.
It looks like Andrew planned to summit Wetterhorn at 8:15 pm vs. 10:00 pm actual, or 1:45 behind plan. If his plan breaks the record by approx 20 hrs and we're nearing the completion of day 2 (48 hrs), it seems to me he is doing quite well. Still a long ways to go, of course! Culebra Peak poses some problems due to the fact that you MUST be there at 6:00 am on the day you buy a ticket, so tomorrow is clearly a critical day. GodSPEED!
