I just "tuned" in again. This is confusing. I think you're right - could be a wrong turn in the dark and could cost him some time.

I wondered about that. If you follow the saddle to the left you would end up following it all the way to Gladstone. I took that saddle on my way from Wilson Pk to Mt. Wilson. If you continue on the right side you can follow it to Rock of Ages saddle. Maybe went on the L instead of the R? Anyway, looks like he is heading the right way now.

There’s a place on the return as you approach the Gladstone Ridge where there is a slab that slopes of to the left. This could be slippery in the rain. It’s real common to drop elevation to avoid this and regain near where the Gladstone Ridge meets the Wilson Peak Ridge and the ridge back to Rock of Ages Saddle.

It looks like he is running down to the TH now after some apparent delays in the SPOT getting through.

This is the kind of stuff people are watching. I can't stand those "reality" shows. It's too bad someone like this, with REAL talent, goes relatively un-noticed in our society. I feel like it's misplaced priorities, really.

Go Homie! Your tremendous efforts are an inspiration to us all!
UPDATE: Looks like Homie has reached the Rock of Ages Saddle, ~70 minutes after leaving the summit of Mt. Wilson.
The people I work with just gave me some odd sideways glances because I just laughed out loud at this... Thanks! As 'talented', or sadistic that guy guys is, this really is an amazing feat of human endeavor. Go Homie!!!!

It's really amazing that we can watch this unfold in real time. Isn't this wild?

I know! I can't stop myself from checking in on him. When I thought he had taken a wrong turn I was really concerned, imaging what it's like in the dark and rain and alone on a 14'er. Very impressive. I was so relieved just now to see him heading down toward the ROA trailhead where his buddy is waiting for him with a warm car. Go Homie!

Wow! So is it off to Sneffels now or will he get some sleep? He's been at it all day!

I think he has to hit Sneffels to stay on pace.

That's incredible. I didn't look at this thread until AndYouSeeMe told me and I am glad I don't miss it! Way better than the Olympics! Wish the best luck!

So, by my late-night math (which may be wrong), Homie is now a little behind Cave Dog. As has been discussed, Cave Dog started from Chicago Basin at 2:30 a.m.; Homie started at 5:15 from the same location, making the baseline difference +2:45 for Homie. According, to Cave Dog's website, he returned to Silver Pick TH after completing the Wilson group at 7:55 p.m. Based on Homie's SPOT transmissions, he returned to Rock of Ages TH at about 11:00, making the post-Wilson difference +3:05 for Homie, approximately 20 minutes behind Cave Dog. Although Homie rocked the traverse, his time from Wilson Peak to ROA TH was over twice what Cave Dog's was to Silver Pick TH. However, this neither accounts for the change in distance from the old Silver Pick TH to the new ROA TH, nor potential errors in SPOT transmission times and locations. However, for me, it suggests the times are close enough that Homie has to do Sneffels tonight.

Nerd analysis aside, this is an amazing event to behold. Not amazing as in every day usage, but genuinely amazing. We are a fortunate community to have folks such as Cave Dog and Homie. Thank you both.

This sucks (because it's so freakin' awesome!)...I have way too much to do at work and am going to be utterly worthless tomorrow (and the next 9 to 10 days). Rock this s**t, Homie!
