Nearly 29,000 acres now. This could be a tremendous disaster. The area was as dry as I've ever seen it in 40+ years, with hardly any snow pack this year. Not good.

Tejonmax, since most photo files are 2-4MB, the file has to be shrunk to 1MB or less to be attached on this site, then just click on attachments when you post a comment. With a Mac, I have to make a copy of the photo, then open the copy, under "Tools" click on "Adjust Size" then change the resolution number from 72 which it usually is at to 50 or 60, that will reduce the size and it will tell you what the new size is, then save. Not sure the process for a PC if that's what you have.
Here are two photos.The first was from yesterday when it was still around 4,000 acres. The second is from just now. They were taken from 30 miles to the north. The Sierra Blanca range is on the right and the fire to the left. The Sierra Blancas are still in the clear but can quickly change with a redirection of the wind. The amount of cloud cover over the area makes it difficult to distinguish the smoke from clouds. When the clouds clear I'll take another photo.

Here is a pic from the east near Walsenburg. The plumes on the left are right above LaVeta. The main plume of smoke extents far to the right of this picture.

we're still headed to lake como tonight. If you are headed down to Lindsey or Colony Lakes, keep an eye on fire updates.
The new pre evac zones stretch up to Gardner (CO 69) and over to Huerfano Valley (road to Lindsey).

Well, the winds have changed direction today from southwest to east southeast and the smoke has now engulfed the Sierra Blanca range all the way north to just a few miles south of the Sand Dunes. The winds are forecast to come from the southeast tomorrow as well.

The fire jumped Hwy 160 last night just east of la Veta Pass. It burned the side of Maestas Peak and is moving north/east up towards Hwy 69. The fire lines around La Veta are said to be holding. It is still moving south towards Cuchara. Thankfully the smoke has been a lot less the last two mornings. Some reporter was standing in front of Maestas Peak last night calling it Blanca Peak. They have arrested a guy for starting the fire out in Costilla County. We will see what today brings.
