We'll have to check the number of days required before a vehicle can be legally taken. If abandoned, a vehicle has to be claimed in a certain number of days, I think. 1. This guy is a moron.
2. He put the kids at huge risk.
3. That truck has a 37.6289% (+/-) chance of being upside-down before this fully plays out.
4. It's gonna take a tractor to move a lot of dirt and rock before that truck is: a) out of it's hole, b) able to drive away.
5. These hills already have touchy access issues; he's not helping by giving the mining claim/land owners a reason to say "See, this is what we feared."
6. If the mining claim/land owners have had safety issues about hikers tromping around and falling through to the mine shafts allegedly just below the surface, how are they gonna feel about a tractor driving around and then digging a rescue road.
7. The moron driver had 3 kids with him so he must have already reproduced. If/when #3 occurs, he has already disqualified himself from a darwin award if he kills himself.
8. Has any local paper/tv news reporter heard of this yet?

before any bonfire, at least pull the seats out of the truck so you have a good place to sit and roast some hotdogs and marshmallows

There came a certain time in that guy's 'adventure' when he realized it wasn't a good idea. But he kept going. Perhaps because he thought there might be an easier place to turn around up higher. Then, there came a time when he realized it was more than not a good idea, it was actually a bad idea. But he kept going. He probably couldn't figure out a way to turn around at that point. Then there came a point when he looked at the axles on the rocks and then at the majestic beauty all around. Just how bad he'd f%@ked up started creeping in. Phase I of his punishment had begun. He had a lot of time to reflect as he and his kids took a long, quiet, walk out. Then, several hours later, there came a time when he had to tell his wife what he'd done. Phase II of his punishment had begun. Close your eyes, sit back and mentally savor that scene.
This story is going to be a never ending form of punishment at every holiday gathering for the rest of his life.

He could get it out with a cable attached up hill where he could swing it back on a wide arc back onto the trail. Once he gets the downhill wheel on the trail he should be able to retrace back out of there. They better hurry because winter is coming very soon.
I would say he has about a week before it starts to get nasty up there. Dumb, dumb, dumb. I'm surprised no news organization is covering this. Somebody on this forum is a policeman or knows one. Plug in the license plate number and reveal this guy to us. Never mind I didn't say that. Pretty embarrassing to say the least.

Im just thinking of other ways to get that sucker off the mountain... Hire a chopper ($$$$) to fly it out of there. A really strong one capable of hauling that much payload in the air....Not sure if one exists - Im not a whiz on choppers - just thinking hypothetically. OR tear it up part for part. All that would take is a truck with someone who could "actually drive" to get up past him, turn around, throw a winch cable on him and drag his ass out of there...then drive his truck down for him so that there is no repeat. I have been stuck and help to unstick in 10x the difficulty of that.

We know his plate number, 060-MXP. Can someone run his tags to see who the owner is? In most states this is public record, although it might cost a few bucks. But I know we have some folks in law enforecement here who can get this info for free in minutes.
