OH! Just found out that after every El Nino winter, the summer is especially hot! So just look forward to a summer that's remarkably hotter than this one!

Also El Ninos this big have also been linked historically to death and destruction across the globe that are compared to what you see in war zones.

el nino doesnt affect colorado's summer so much, but in other areas of the world there is a larger effect. it will most certainly be the hottest global average temp this year, then another record next year

Didn't they stop publishing the Farmer's Almanac? What was their accuracy rating? Was it as good as Punxsutawney Phil's? His is about 35%.

The Super El Nino has already started, and ocean temps are higher now than what a bad El Nino is at its height in the winter. They're only going to get warmer. "Worst Summer Ever" doesn't seem like it's going to just go to normal come Labor Day.

Anyone else noticing a change in bear behavior?

About a month ago I came across the first bear I've ever encountered while hiking... and it was at 13,000 feet. A mama and her cub on the ridge between Hagues and Mummy in RMNP. I thought it was exceedingly strange to see them up there, I had no idea they'd ever go that high. Left of center in the photo. Has anyone else seen bears up that high? Is that a result of food scarcity or does that happen even in good years?

I mean, there's an area called Bear's Playground in the 13-13.4k range by Crestone Peak so it certaintly has some precedent.

both the old and new farmers almanac have accuracy around 50% which is basically flipping a coin, no real weather forecaster is consulting either of those publications though. in most strong el nino years we see high temps, and in colorado a lot of precip in the fall into winter
