We bumped into John on summits on a few occasions. We’d be sitting there and he’d come running up. John started recognizing us – I guess we don’t look like all the young kids! We’d chat and off he’d run again. Hopefully we’ll be able to see him run by on his way to a new record.

Since Homie is never one to toot his own horn, I would like to give a very brief background on him for those who don't know who he is.

First, his nickname, Homie, was coined by Bill Wright way back in the day due to his relative young age at the time, but he is nothing at all like what many would picture a "Homie" to be which is what makes the name so great.

He has finished all of the 14ers at least twice (maybe closer to 3 or 4 times by now though), has well over 300 14er ascents including repeats, has climbed Longs Peak all 12 months of the year (including Winter technical routes), has nearly completed the Winter 14er list with only 1 or 2 to go, holds the Winter record on Capitol (along with Bill Wright) in something like 12 hours and change, has vast technical climbing experience, started the 14er Grid craze and has finished Hardrock in just under 36 hours. I could go on and on, but you get the idea.

But, all of that pales in comparison as to what a great person he is. John is always the first to volunteer help to his friends to support them in climbing, running, mountaineering, moving or whatever it may be. I can't think of a better partner out in the mountains, he is always level headed, makes smart and well calculated decisions, is safe, efficient, patient and a joy to be around.

Anyways, just wanted to share a little bit about John while he is away from the interwebs for 10 or less days, as he would probably feel funny about me listing his accomplishments :) .

+1. That is a spot-on description of him.

We just passed Silver Pick road, it has been raining HARD up to this point, but has now finally slowed to a drizzle and I see some blue skies. Any word on his progress?

Looks like he hit the trail 5 minutes ago @ Kilpacker.

That's the smart way to do it. I keep forgetting about the car shuttle option. #-o
I wonder if he does the traverse (most likely) or drops down El D back into the Kilpacker basin and runs up SW side of Mt. Wilson. I can't tell which way would be faster, but 2nd option might be safer in case of a lighting storm/serious rain.

So the clock must have started when he got off the train because he didn't take the train back to Durango, he ran out via the Purgatory Creek Trail which is the obvious time conserving move.

First off, yes very exciting and very refreshing thread. Good luck !!!!!

Barry, I haven't studied this thing to death, but it seems the clock started whenever he broke camp in the basin this morning, then took the AM train to Silverton.
