Any camping at Kite Lake gate closure?

Post by aggiemountainman »

Trying to scope out options for places to camp before my group attempts Mt. Democrat's south slope. I have a high clearance 4x4 vehicle so I'm not concerned about getting to the gate. Is it possible to camp right outside the gate? Is it more worthwhile to backpack a mile to the TH? Thanks

I was here saturday, the plow turnoff is prob ~1mi from the gate & there's a lot of snow in between, but you do you with the driving attempt. There were only ski & snowmobile tracks thus far - no one has attempted the drive, just an FYI.

I would personally car camp at the pulloff (or wherever you get to) for convenience, there was only 1 car there on a saturday. You could def camp anywhere along the way though. Have fun.

Do note there is a significant amount of private property on the road in, including I believe at the plow stopping point. So do be respectful of where you attempt to park/camp, especially with a group.

Honestly, I would probably look elsewhere close by and drive in in the morning for car camping.
