Exploring solo around Gannett peak

Post by Codyhill1991 »

Hey everyone -
I am planning a 3 day weekend in the winds and was hoping to get some suggestions on where to focus since I'm overwhelmed otherwise with excellent looking options.

A few years ago I did the Cirque of the Towers and Titcomb and Indian basins and found them to the just spectacular, but I thought about trying a different area this year to see something new. I was thinking about taking the Glacier trail to the base of Gannett, spending a day exploring, and then hiking out on the third day. A few questions -

I am alone and have no comfort level with glacier travel and really don't love a snow slope in general so Gannett is presumably out of the question, I haven't even really looked into it. Are there other peaks or passes nearby that would offer a fun outing for the day? Comfortable up to class 3+ when dry, I just know I'm not going to want to sit at a camp all day so having some direction would be wonderful.

I also remember poking around the start of the Glacier trail a few years ago from Whiskey Basin and couldn't figure out where it went - or there was a substantial river crossing right away - does anyone know current conditions at the beginning of that trail over the last few weeks?

Thanks
viejo

Mt. Febbas is just east of Gannett and offers some nice views.
