Mt. Morrison sunset closure policy
How strict is Morrison closing/opening an hour before and after sunset? Asking as I'd like to start doing more training laps on the peak before/after work, but realistically if I start hiking at 4:30/5ish this time of year it could be dark by the time I get down and I'd prefer to avoid a ticket. I'm sure I'm not the only one running post work laps on the hill so wondering how strict they are about this.

Re: Mt. Morrison sunset closure policy
I climb that hog often, but never after sunset. Not sure I'd want to in the winter for a variety of reasons.
That said, you could always park somewhere in town and walk to the trailhead. Its not that far. Since there's nothing going on at Red Rocks this time of year I doubt anyone would care if you're hiking up there as long as you're not parked. Of course, you'll have to pay the Morrison luxury tax unless you know a free area to park.

- I didn't say it was your fault. I said I was blaming you.

oh you're fine
i been hitting sundowners on mt morrison for years with no one sweating me. perfect place for it.
hell - if i ever got grief i would probably fake an ankle injury or tell them a mtn lion was stalking me or something.
lots of reasons to come in late.

Re: Mt. Morrison sunset closure policy
We are on Morrison frequently- never had issues being there after dark, although I try not to be, just because I’ve seen so many break ins in that parking lot…. I was there after dark the other week and saw cop lights, I was a little worried, it ended up being they just pulled someone over. Which also isn’t surprising in Morrison area … I wouldn’t worry too much, and if you get grief for it, then you’ll know lol

The plan:
1) post about breaking rules on the internet
2) twist ankle at night and call SAR
3) write best selling survival story
In all seriousness, maybe don’t break the rules and give Jeffco some reason to consider additional rules that limit access like reservation systems, etc. those are probably coming at some point anyway so don’t give them a reason to speed up the process. Just my 2 cents as someone who lives close to Morrison and Falcon and uses both frequently.
