I was able to drive a Forester to within a half mile of Engineer Pass on the Lake City side. I'm guessing some pretty serious regrading of the Engineer Pass Rd. was done recently. From there, only a couple inches of snow were on the ground until I got to Engineer Pass. The snow was a little deeper on the Engineer Pass Road on the north side of Engineer Mtn. I climbed the slope to the west of Engineer Mtn. and traversed over to Seigal Mtn. I descended toward the road at one point and re-ascended to avoid some snow. The snow is completely avoidable. I think snow is in the forecast in the near future, so that might change. In addition, Wildhorse's south slopes were completely snow- free. American Flats had some snow, but a snow-free route to the Wildhorse/Blackwall area could probably be found. The west side of Wetterhorn had almost no snow. Very little snow was on Uncompahgre's west side. |
