This is one seriously enjoyable mountain. I was really happy to do this with my good friends Craig (rambis21) and Philip (philip135792).
The boulderfield up to K2 still has a large amount of snow in it, which is actually relieving because the snow travel is less irritating than (elk range) boulder hopping.
The climbing was great and we enjoyed meeting the other climbers on these peaks as well.
We stayed close to the ridge above the cairns because the climbing was more solid and comfortable. We prefer more difficult but solid climbing to loose rock and dirt.
The hardest part about Capitol is reading all the apprehensive reports and horror stories beforehand.

I had a month between graduating and continuing work to go and climb.
In this time I was able to tour Utah, the Pacific Northwest, Oregon, and California. I got to climb a volcano in the cascades and made some progress on my remaining 14ers.
Time well spent.

Brian: Wow thanks! It's crazy to get comments from some of the legends such as yourself. I've climbed quite a few (and some repeats) the last couple months. Not a bad day in the mountains! The most gratifying thing is that I enjoyed all the repeats as much if not more the second time. Looks like my looming ”end” of the 14ers is just the beginning!!
Gonzalj: NO! Philip used ankle socks and tennis shoes in fact. (Philip is a bit of a crazy animal, but you certainly don't need any traction or axe of any sort).
Yeah, the things we say when we're young and naive, huh!? And yes, I think repeats are even more enjoyable the 2nd (and 3rd, and 4th, ...)time around. You know what to expect and can concentrate on just reliving and enjoying the climb. I think it's kind of like visiting old friends. You don't just visit a friend once.
Capitol is an amazing mountain and I hope to hit it at least once more in my lifetime. Wish it were just a tad bit more accessible to me, otherwise I'd probably do it every year. Thanks for sharing!
When I finished the 14ers, my wife braced for the news that now I was doing the Centenials or all the 13ers. I explained, and stand by the idea that while I'm not exclusive to 14ers, I feel some kind of kinship with them that continues to grow. Some of my very best days have been repeating routes I loved (Tour de Abyss, Keyhole), or doing new routes (Chihuahua Gulch, Halo Ridge). 14ers keep giving, and I keep taking.
Nice photos! Good job! I remember when I hiked my first - Mt Huron, and looking through the TR's and Route Descriptions said similar - ”I'll never do Longs”...haven't done it yet due to scheduling but would like to fit that in this summer. In looking at your photos of the infamous Knife Edge - it's looks cautiously doable
Having never climbed a 14er but preparing for my first, Capitol looks extremely intimidating. Maybe some day. Congrats to you! Getting anxious and excited.....
