A Continuing Exercise In Existential Pointlessness
"You're either talkin bout the place to be
Who you are, what you got
Or bout a sucker MC"
South River Peak, Colorado's 42nd most prominent
13,148 feet, 2,448' prominence, 21.15 miles isolation
Estimated 20 miles roundtrip, 3,500+ feet of gain
TH start 9:35, summit 3:15, TH return 7:15
There are two existing trip reports for South River Peak, but none in the autumn, so sharing a photo TR with fall foliage. The Ivy Creek Trailhead and Campground is about 10 miles south of Creede, 275 miles from Denver, and except for the last few hundred feet of the road, accessible to 2WD. The trail goes to within a hundred feet of the summit, and despite LoJ describing it as class 2+ I was not able to locate that on the summit block and did a short class 3 scramble instead.
The trail parallels Ivy Creek for about 5 miles before turning to switchback up this talus slope to a saddle.
Uncompahgre seen at center right background.
Beautiful Mtn 12,764' seen after crossing the saddle.
First view of the summit block.
The trail goes just east of and below the summit.
20 feet of class 3.
Looking west.
Thanks for reading...

nice work man. I put this 13er on my to do list from the cabin in Pagosa earlier this summer, but never had the time to see it pan out. Quite a haul to get in there. Well done on a big day, Brian!
... and everyone knows that. But that is why we love him.
Nice report, Brian. Creede is one of my favorite spots in Colorado and I will have to go catch this one next time I’m there. Thanks for putting this one up.
Wow. Congrats on getting WAAAAY out there. And for not getting eaten by the aggressive Chupacabras that (allegedly) took down most of the other would-be TR posters.
