Yea, I think the best route would be up Navajo, then do Peak, Mt., El Diente and then down that nasty couloir. He could return via Kilpacker but he'd have to backtrack a ways. Although looking at the map it may be quicker to just go ahead and backtrack and then take Kilpacker back down.

I think someone already mentioned it. Looks like he's doing Kilpacker (shorter, less gain) El Diente to Mt. Wilson, then dropping down on the North side above Navajo Lake, up to ROA saddle, hitting Wilson Peak, and then returning to ROA saddle and running down the Silver Pick trail to get picked up. The rules don't currently suggest you must start/end at the same place.

He's definately doing Kilpacker right now. Point 36 was about 6 min ago.

It looks like he is just about to start the steep stuff on El Diente. Took him just over an hour to cover the approach! I can't wait to see how he is going to tackle the traverse to Mt. Wilson. Stay safe and hopefully, weather will cooperate! Wet rock on El Diente will slow things down, but Kilpacker side overall is not that bad.

radar is back up, doesn't look like a pleasant evening for Homie. But, radar can be deceiving, its difficult to know how bad it really is. Maybe Bill will blog at Telluride.

Really? That would be my third choice. I would think RoA->El D (N. Buttress)->MW (via traverse) and hitting up WP on the return would be fastest. We met a guide the other day who seemed to think the same. Kilpacker -> El D->MW->WP-> RoA would be my second option. The traverse w/ south-side bypasses is fairly easy and relatively solid (at Homie's experience level); I don't see why he'd do the two separately.

Either way, I'm certain he's scoped/tested out numerous routes and chose his current one with considerable thought. He's currently at the southern base of El D.

Considering the weather (Ridgway Cam, Telluride Cam) and notoriously loose rock, he's got a tough task ahead.

Here's the schedule showing roughly when and where I expect to be:

Thu, 8/23 - 5:15a train from Silverton to Chicago Basin
Fri, 8/24 - San Juans
Sat, 8/25 - San Juans
Sun, 8/26 - Sangres
Mon, 8/27 - Sangres (Culebra @ 6:00 am), Pikes, Sawatch
Tue, 8/28 - Sawatch
Wed, 8/29 - Sawatch, Elks
Thu, 8/30 - Sawatch, Elks
Fri, 8/31 - Sawatch, Elks, Mosquito
Sat, 9/1 - Sawatch, Mosquito, Tenmile, Front
Sun, 9/2 - Mosquito, Tenmile, Front
Mon, 9/3 - Front

Eric
I think he needs a better logistics leader, this plan falls short of the current record by few days.

I count 11 days. The record is 10 days 23 hours so this schedule looks fine to me as long as he finishes before 4 a.m.

Per the OP's link to Cave Dog's site, Cave Dog's record is 10 days 20 hours 26 minutes.

Therefore to break the record, Homie needs to finish by: September 3, 1:41am (if he started today, August 23, 5:15am). Sound right?
