Re: My 14er record attempt
Homie, thanks for the motivation. Your courage to push beyond what most mortals could withstand was inspirational. Your effort and the posts to allow us to follow your progress has helped to bring healing and distraction from many trials and helped to allow us to all cheer for you as a unified 14er group!

Re: My 14er record attempt
Agreed - it's a monumental record by Cave Dog, and a monumental attempt by John. This week has shown just how powerful the current record is.inthemtns wrote:I tip my hat to both Homie and Cavedog. While everybody was rooting for John to break the record, Cavedog's efforts should be acknowledged. A failed effort accentuates the Herculean effort of Cavedog.
Thank you both (and your support teams) for giving us all some extra fuel to achieve our own goals.

Congrats Homie - amazing run at the record
It's been really fun to watch!
It's also been great learning more about the history of the speed record and all the amazing athletes who have held the record. Cave Dog's speed record and Andrew Hamilton's self-powered speed record are quite unbelievable!

Re: My 14er record attempt
Well done, Homie and all who were involved in this monumental endeavor.
41 summits in a week-- wow. Fantastic job.
And all came through more or less intact. And all are safe.
Bravo.

All I can do is echo what has been said.
I have only respect for you Homie and I am still in awe. Sounds like you are an amazing person. It goes with out saying you are a true inspiration.
Congrats on your accomplishments!

Re: My 14er record attempt
Just checking in to add to the others expressing admiration for what John did. It was a great time watching it and truly inspirational. Part of me hopes that he'll give it a go again next year, though I understand that the experience might have been a one time thing. Either way, nothing will be quite like watching over the past week or so and cheering you on from over here in England (better add that to the list).

Re: My 14er record attempt
There are times when the journey can be even more inspirational than the end result. This is definitely one of those times. The only reason I'm disappointed is because it sure was fun to follow it.

certainly not a loss, looks to me like he filled 31 of his empty 14er grid slots.

Re: My 14er record attempt

"Now what do we do?"
"I'm going back to the poop thread."
It's an amazing feat, what Cave Dog and Homie have done. And let's not forget Andrew Hamilton, who biked himself around Colorado in 19 days, 10 hours AND summited all these peaks. I'll agree with Bill Wright, Andrew's self-powered record is the most badass endurance feat I've heard of. Cheers and bravo to all!
