Would the owner at Culebra really not cut him any slack if he got in after 6:00? I've not hiked Culebra yet so I'm unfamiliar with the process there.

The conclusion is: The timestamp is set when you punch the send button not when it is actually sent, so Bad Dads "I am on a summit" messages should show the actual time he was there.

At first I tested while outside in good coverage, the messages went through in ~30 seconds so it wasn't a good test. I then sent from inside my house thinking the roof would block the signal, not so, went through in 30 seconds again. At 5:18 I sent from my refrigerator, the red LED was flashing meaning I did not have a signal. At 5:30 I put it outside, it took 2 minutes before it sent. The message however read it was sent at 5:18.
Dwight - you're awesome - in the most geek kinda way...

Congrats to Andrew - the race is not won in the first days - stay strong, keep heading up. Best of luck. And why not "the Hammer" Seems like you're pounding 'em out so far!

Andrew's got two tickets for two days for Culebra, so I guess the answer is, "no"

He's on his way to San Luis right now @ 4:10 am. Is Culebra today on his schedule? If so, that's not gonna happen. He may have to deal with a clear, calm sunrise on San Luis. That would be awful.

He is heading over to do Kit Carson / Challenger / Humboldt / Crestones today. He is now 2.5 hours behind schedule but that really doesn't matter so long as he can finish this next group and get to the ranch by 6:00 tomorrow AM, his schedule will reset to zero hours behind if he does that. What it does mean though is that he will get 2.5 hours less sleep on what should have been a break period.

Yes, all from South Colony trailhead if he goes with his initial plan. This is to make sure he gets the Crestone traverse in daylight. Huge day to get all five, good thing the weather forecast is great. He should get some decent rest on the long drive there from San Luis.

While I'm definitely pulling for Andrew, I think the 'easy' part is now done. As he moves North he's going to encounter more snow and wetter conditions. Hopefully the weather holds, as that was A MAJOR FACTOR that held up Cave Dog and Homie. Go gettem man, enjoy the scrambling in the Crestones, its a fun link up. Watching with excited anticipation...

My guess is he will hit the Crestones first thing this AM, followed by KC & C and finish Humboldt this evening. I presume this will entail him doing the traverse backwards which would scare the heck out of me w/o a rope but I am a mere mortal.

Huzzah, my good man! I see you've provided me with an opportunity to profess my ignorance (and not by accident this time). When you refer to "the traverse", do you describe the Crestone Needle - Crestone Peak combo? And would "backwards" refer to doing the Needle first and then moving North?

Are we presuming Andrew doesn't want to drag a rope all over the Crestones just to rappel the Needle?

Getting to the Culebra ranch gate by 6:00 am tomorrow is critical. His schedule has 3 hrs of buffer time and it appears that he's approx 2.5 hrs behind schedule, so it's possible that his plan will have to be altered if he encounters any difficulties today. I sure hope not!
