R there bears at Snowmass Lake?
In anyone's experience?
Re: R there bears at Snowmass Lake?
A bear canister is required for camping anywhere in the Maroon/Snowmass Wilderness Area by the USFS.

Anywhere in that area has bears. I’m not aware of it having any nuisance bears like they had in the past near Crater Lake, Capital Lake or Lake Como. Although there are nuisance people
. Bring a Bear Vault, you can’t just hang your food in a tree and hope for the best. The Bear Vault is required and you can receive a hefty fine if you are caught without one. See: https://www.fs.usda.gov/Internet/FSE_DO ... 806552.pdf

Okay good to know. I don't do bears (or at least prefer not to).
Thanks for the input!

SO MANY bears at Snowmass Lake. They ate my girlfriend and her dog. It was sad. Luckily I came out unscathed.

Dodged a bullet. That's like ( $400/month + $100/month ) x 12 months = $6000 in savings over the next year. That's TWO (2) relatively luxurious trips to Chamonix to climb in the Alps.benlen wrote:They ate my girlfriend and her dog.

Yes, bears do frequent Snowmass Lake. Even without the requirement, a bear canister would be a good idea if camping in that area. Don't worry about them too much.
If one finds his way into your tent, just go with it and consider yourself lucky.

Man, if I'd only have thought of this before my divorce, what a simple solution I might have had.Monster5 wrote:Dodged a bullet. A fun hike to Snowmass Lake. What a concept.

Oh I know. The sheer amount of money I save in not going out to eat is insane. Buy that new hardshell Ben! You'll be eating out a can all month.Monster5 wrote:Dodged a bullet.
