Parking in Silverton

Post by Wish I lived in CO »

Am planning on hiking Chicago Basin in September, taking the train from the Silverton side. As part of other plans for a long stay in CO I will have an RV and will need to park it in Silverton. I know there is an RV park in town that I may use for one night upon my return from CB, but I don't want to pay $42 a night for it to just sit there for 4 or 5 days. I've heard the parking at the Silverton depot is free? Even for RV's? Where is the parking exactly for the depot (I heard it was at a hotel or something???). Any help appreciated.

You can park an RV in Durango for $10/night (Durango/Silverton train depot), but the free parking available in Silverton is street parking a few blocks from the center of town. You may be able to find a place to park an RV somewhere, but I wouldn't count on it. I would recommend calling the train depot and asking them about your options.

The parking in Silverton isn't really at the train depot per se , so there is no particular lot that is for people using the train. Parking throughout town is free however, and we found a good space within a block or so of the train's departure point. With that said I didn't immediately see a good spot for an RV, although I certainly wasn't looking for it. You might think about calling the Railroad as they may have some suggestions for you. That area is awesome, I hope you have as good a time as we did!
