Antero 4wd trailhead anyone?
Anybody been to the 4wd trailhead in Baldwin Gulch lately? Just wondering what the "road" is like after all the rain of late.

Re: Antero 4wd trailhead anyone?
I was there on July 28, which is nearly 3 weeks ago. But it was pretty wet then, too.
I stopped around 11,500' in a Tacoma. I aired down to about 20 PSI to prevent punctures. There was one section early-on that was washed out and very muddy, but I didn't get stuck. That was the only troublesome spot. The creek crossing wasn't a big deal.

Drove the whole road to 13,800' this past weekend. A few wet spots but not a problem. The "big" creek crossing at what 14ers.com calls the 4wd trailhead is only 10 inches or so.

How long is the route from this point? Considering this..ezabielski wrote:Drove the whole road to 13,800' this past weekend. A few wet spots but not a problem. The "big" creek crossing at what 14ers.com calls the 4wd trailhead is only 10 inches or so.

Really, really short. I made it to the top in 14 minutes from there. Strava says .6 miles and 400-500'. I definitely wasn't going to count it on my checklist. I've walked it from the 2WD trailhead a few years ago, and I was just driving up there for fun this time.Slushslasher wrote:How long is the route from this point? I wouldn't call it really short! It's all legit class two and the first section has a few borderline exposed spots. It's pretty fun and will take you more in the 30 - 50 minute range to hike it.Slushslasher wrote:Haha yeah that is not much of a hike, thanks for the infoezabielski wrote:Really, really short. Are you hiking/climbing mountains or just acquiring checkmarks?Hershel wrote:

Climber 1: Hi there, wow! what a great day to be climbing!rijaca wrote:Are you hiking/climbing mountains or just acquiring checkmarks?
Climber 2: Yeah, not so much, I just got the worst one upping in the history of the planet.
C1: How did that happen?
C2: Well, I met a guy who was telling me about his trip out to Washington to climb Rainier. So I told him about the time I went to Yosemite and climbed the Half Dome.
C1: That doesn’t sound too bad.
C2: Wait, it gets worse. Then he told me about the time he got frostbite climbing Denali. Ha! I said, I rescued a guy with frostbite on Denali once!
C1: Sounds like you had him there.
C2: That's what I thought. Then, outta nowhere, he tells me about doing a winter ascent of Mont Blanc. I didn’t see that coming at all!
C1: Ouch, sucker punch! So, what did you do?
C2: Third and long, what else could I do? I told him about the time I climbed Cho Oyu!
C1: Don't tell me, did he…?
C2: Yes, he did. He said, I'll see your Cho Oyu and raise you an Everest!
C1: Oh, man! You're such a loser! You suck! Maybe you should just hang yourself with your climbing rope.
C2: Yeah, but I'm so upset I can't decide which knot to use.
C1: Oh heck, that's easy, a bowline should work fine. Here, I'll help you tie it. Well, nice talking. Have a good day!
C2: Thanks, you too.
