Teardrop Trailers

Post by nquesnel »

Does anyone have a teardrop trailer they love? We are currently in the market for one that we are able to take off road to remote areas, that fits 2 adults and 2 dogs.

Based on my research it looks like Colorado Teardrops has some pretty good options, but want to get a feel of what others are using/have used.

Try Hiker Trailer at hikertrailer.net
They have regular, mid-range, and off road trailers (teardrop size) at affordable pricing.

Just put my order in on Friday at http://www.tcteardrops.com/ A 5X8 This is a more traditional teardrop style. Hiker trailer and this guy are competiters and also good friends for many years. They each tell you, "If you don't buy my trailer....buy his"! Very close on pricing when you go apples to apples.

My friend got his TC Teardrop 5X9

My winter project is building a 4x8 teardrop from the ground up. You obviously have to have the time and patience, but if you have any interest in going that route these guys have excellent plans and are very helpful via phone or email.

I picked this up for$2500 in Missouri a few weeks back. It's not fully loaded, but it beats a tent.

Not to go off topic, but I have a pop up for sale if anyone is interested.
Here's the 14ers ad: https://www.14ers.com/php14ers/gearclass.php?entry=2808
The camper is in excellent shape as it has original body panels, not one rip or tear in the interior, and all the original manuals. This one is NOT a "fixer upper".
Just thought I'd throw it out there...

Shoot me an offer if interested.

A small (4x8) teardrop is awesome for when you get tired of sleeping in a tent at trailheads. Unfortunately, they are popular and most builders have a several month wait list.
You can also check craigslist and ebay for them -- just make certain you get a decent one since there are people building them with really cheap materials or on a harbor freight (or equally crappy) trailer base just to cash in on the trend.

Yeah, Mandy and I currently live full-time in a T@b Outback Edition manufactured by NuCamp Trailers. The Outback Edition has about 6 inches higher clearance, a bigger more rugged wheel-and-axle package, as well as a few other cosmetic differences. The clearance is high enough to get back onto some rough roads. It goes without saying that you won't be getting up Lake Como Road in this thing, but we've taken ours on some decently rough roads in Colorado and the Tetons.

The T@b is big enough for two people (she's 5'3" and I'm 6'1") to live in with enough space to not always be touching each other. We opted for the model without the bathroom in order to get a more open feel and some additional storage. Both of us were used to living without a bathroom so it just made sense to us. We lived in a T@g trailer for a while before up-sizing to the T@b. It's made by NuCamp as well. This trailer is an actual teardrop trailer (basically just a bed on wheels) with the outdoor, clam-shell kitchen. The T@g also has an Outback Edition, which includes the same upgrades as on the T@b, but also includes brakes (the regular T@g does not have brakes). The T@g would get pretty crowded with two adults and two dogs if you're spending any significant amount of time inside.

Here's a picture of our current home...

May not technically be a teardrop, but the Cricket is pretty cool: https://taxaoutdoors.com/ultra-light-tr ... r-trailer/

I have a 5 wide teardrop that we love. It is big enough to accommodate two adults a young child and our dog. Depending on the size of your dogs I would say that you too will love the comfort and convenience of the teardrop. It has enough ground clearance to go off road, but as previously mentioned I would be cautious about some of the more demanding 4wd trails.
