When does that bottom parking lot typically fill up by Grays/Torreys? I'm wanting to park there around 5am. Will I be able to?

Re: Nutrition for 14ers (Grays and Torreys)
As many have alluded to, there's no 'one-size-fits-all' diet for 14er dayhikes - everybody's different. Bring the three staples (Carbs, fats, proteins), and see what your system can handle. Typically, when you're working hard at altitude the fatty things can be rough on your gut. Really, it's just trial and error, and G&T is a great place to experiment because you have legions of people who can help you out if you get in trouble.
One thing I learned early on is don't eat PB&J's on the hike, because even though I love peanut butter, when I'm out hiking it just wrecks my stomach. I also learned to store up your energy at lunch the day before, and eat a light, bland dinner. That Qdoba burrito with habanero salsa at 5:00pm will demand a quick exit out the back door about a mile up the trail. Or not - again, your system might be different.
I've settled into a routine of banana and protein bar on the drive in, and then on-trail having Twizzler bites in a pants or hipbelt pocket for quick energy, and a Snickers bar, beef stick/jerky, and some Club crackers on the summit. Works well for me.
I tried throwing some Gatorade in my Camelback, but found it doesn't really help me as much as just good ol' water. 2 liters lasts me right at 8 hours, but I don't drink unless I'm thirsty.

The bottom lot (the one at the Bakerville exit of I-70) typically does not fill up because most folks are just too darn lazy to hike the extra three miles up the road. Although it is possible that it *might* fill up on a busy weekend, you will not have any problems getting a parking spot at 5am, weekend or no.zfleeman wrote:When does that bottom parking lot typically fill up by Grays/Torreys? KT's in Broomfield or Boulder is pretty damn good too - the KT's in Denver not so much. I don't go to that one anymore. If you go try the brisket and key lime pie cups.letourneau41 wrote:No way. Haven't tried these spots, but I'll have to check 'em out. I spent some time in KC so I like to think I'm somewhat of a BBQ connoisseur
