Crazy night sky sighting

Hi all, did anyone see something strange in the sky at around 4:30 AM today, July 27th 2018? My daughter and I were hiking Grays Peak very early this morning and it looked like 4 or 5 stars were vertically aligned in the Southern sky. They got brighter, then faded a bit, then got bright again, and dropped out of the sky. I'm guessing they were some sort of airplanes, but there was no blinking lights and it didn't seem like planes how you normally see them in the sky.

It was probably a cloud that blew in that I couldn't see that blocked the light for a bit then blew past, then another cloud that came in that blocked all the light again. Maybe a bunch of planets aligned or something, but it was cool to see.

I just really want to know what the heck it was that my daughter and I saw and wondering if anyone else saw it. By the way I'm not some lunatic that thinks it was aliens, I just can't explain it.
