night hiking/biking within 75 mins of downtown denver?

Post by hikr »

Can you recommend any good trails for night hiking/biking within 75 minutes of downtown Denver? It seems like a lot of trails post a closing time of right around nightfall but I would probably want to hike/bike around 10pm - midnight.

For biking, the newly-opened trails around Rocky Flats don't have a closure time, as far as I know. Or if they do, there is no way they could ever enforce it. It's just way too big and they don't seem to have a staff working there.

For hiking, yes most of the of metro-area county open space parks have closure times, so you'll need to go farther up into the hills to national forest or wilderness areas.

I personally am not concerned about the Rocky Flats area, but for the OP it's probably worth reading the history in case you find it worrying. Assuming you haven't already, that is.

All Forest Service trails meet your criteria of being open at night. And there are literally HUNDREDS of them within 75 minutes of Denver.

Boulder Mountain Parks is open 24/7. The parking at Chautauqua is not. (park on 9th or 10th).

Just don't confuse city and county properties. City of Boulder Open Space and Mountain Parks are open 24/7 (https://bouldercolorado.gov/osmp) but Boulder County Parks and Open Space are only open sunrise to sunset (https://www.bouldercounty.org/departmen ... pen-space/), with the exception of commuter trails.
