Recently finished "Bless Me, Ultima," Rudolfo Anaya. Coming of age story and a good one. Now about halfway through Sirens of Titan by Kurt Vonnegut. :wft: but interesting and can't wait to see what transpires.

How do you like it? I've heard a few reviews, both online and first-hand, that it's a bit on the pompous side. "If you have a full-time job and other life responsibilities, you're an idiot." I'm interested, but I already roll my eyes enough at those types of folks on Instagram every day.
i don’t find his writing pompous, but yes- he definitely emphasizes how much more happiness he finds alone in the wilderness than at home grinding it out. it’s poetic, poorly edited, and imperfect- definitely reads like a personal journal. i like it

Ditto. It's a style you'll either really enjoy or roll your eyes at quite a bit. I did some of both. Even when I tended to roll my eyes, however, I still understood where he was coming from, so I mostly enjoyed it. It's a short read anyways.

I just finished "Bad Blood" - Not mountain related but a fascinating read. It's astounding that Elizabeth Holmes fooled so many people with no real new technology and the lengths she went to to do so.

I recently listened to the podcast on her. The level of ego and immaturity is absolutely astounding.

Unfortunately, it's worse than just that; the accumulation of wealth, in our current society, justifies whatever means necessary to achieve it. Look around: you can see it everywhere.

It's all about lining pockets with dineros.

I disagree respectfully Sir, it is about "synergy" and "disruption" and being the "smartest person in the room". For some people just being comfortable with the money is good enough, and then hubris and black turtleneck take over and go on autopilot...

I disagree back. This is greed, simple and clear. Whether it's Bernie Madoff, Martin Shkreli, or the unpunished Wall Street criminals that brought the nation to its knees in 2008, lying, cheating and stealing so that you can have an ostrich skin coat or whatever other buffoonery proves you've "made it" is all the rage.

Consider the grifter in chief. They're all the same. Pocket lining at the expense of anyone not your immediate family, and sometimes even then.

Anyway, back to the thread.

My current read is The Apache Wars by Andrew Hutton and it is a great read about one of the later chapters of disrespect we visited on Native Americans during the 1800s. It's interesting and thought provoking.
