That's a good book, and a sad story.

The Storm on Our Shores by 14ers.com's own Mark Obmascik (Oman).
Thoroughly researched and well written story of "One Island, Two Soldiers and The Forgotten Battle of WWII".

one of the better books I've read in quite some time.

Just finished Into Thin Air and loved it. Starting The Beach next.

Just finished this and can’t recommend it enough. A page turning story, at least in the second half, as well as a fascinating history of Lake Powell, the dam, and the canyon.

I agree. I found the book particularly relevant as I lived in Ticaboo, UT (10 miles N of Bullfrog Marina, Lake Powell) in 1983, the year of the fast boat ride.

Didn’t Mortenson make up a lot of his stories? I’m pretty sure he was discredited. Unfortunately a lot of that came from Jon Krakauer, who I feel isn’t always exactly accurate with his reporting/story telling.
