Maybe the treasure is really out there. Maybe it's not. I like to think that it's metaphorical treasure of spending time in the wilderness instead of the urban jungle people have created. If it is real, it's gonna be a mystery to some people thousands of years in the future. It's sad that people have lost their lives searching for it, but really if your not competent to swim in cold moving water, don't get in it. I saw a nationally ranked pool swimmer nearly drown at the wedge in california. It's cool to go find stuff out there. I have gone looking for the oldest known bristle cone pine in Colorado. It's not easy to find.

Fenn has stated many times it is not in a dangerous, difficult place, but in a location an octogenarian can get to without trouble. Why people decide to risk their lives chasing something like this in unlikely places is baffling and totally unnecessary.

The memes are weak with you.

I actually liked your post in the Alternative 58 list though.

Some closure. Very sad loss of life.

He probably said it was found so people quit killing themselves looking for it (whether it existed in the first place or not).

Yeah, that crossed my mind. If he claims the finder insists on anonymity, it'll be hard to know if this was ever legit. Hopefully the finder will come forward with photos, as well as a location for those curious. We'll see...

Wow, the ultimate catfisher luring in crazy white gold diggers. Fenn must be laughing his old ass off.

I always wondered if Fenn made the mistake of hiding it on public land. If someone found it on public land, couldn't the government claim ownership of the property? Hence, the finder of the treasure would need to remain anonymous.
