Re: Sandy Irvine's boot found on Everest's Central Rongbuk Glacier
I figured that Irvine's body would eventually melt out of the ice of the Rongbuk in about 100 years. I guess if you drew a line from the ice axe on the ridge to Mallory's body and beyond, then you might find Irvine some day. That day has come finally.
Does Sandy have the camera? It was a long fall. What are the odds?
Did the Chinese find it in 1975 on Mallory possibly and rumored to have destroyed it trying to develop the film. Is it in a museum in Tibet? Who knows?
Either way, this is exciting news!

A few good books on the subject:
Into the Silence by Wade Davis
Detectives on Everest by Jochen Hemmleb & Eric Simonson

Exploring further, if the Irvine had the camera as is thought, and it's in the vicinity of the boot -
When Jimmy Chin gave the Irvine's boot to the China-Tibet Mountaineering Association, how many details did he divulge about the location where he found it?
Does the China-Tibet Mountaineering Association launch their own expedition to try to find the camera, and if they find it turn it over to the Chinese government to be hidden away forever?
Does Jimmy Chin go back, find the camera, and turn it over to China-Tibet Mountaineering Association and ultimately the Chinese government?
Does Jimmy Chin go back, find the camera, and try to smuggle it out in his luggage?
Is it plausible Jimmy Chin could go back with some film development experts, find the camera, develop the film on the lower mountain and upload the pictures before turning the camera over to the China=Tibet Mountaineering Association?
It will be fascinating to see what happens next!
