Most Dense Visual Grouping of 14ers?

Post by scoutbuff1 »

I backpacked in the Missouri (Pine Creek) Basin this weekend. My fourth or fifth trip and it always amazes! In our group, we were discussing if there was another place in North America where you could see more 14ers (other than from the top of one) at once. I'm thinking 'no,' but would like to hear another location. Thanks!

Standing on a good vantage point on the East side of the Arkansas River Valley, you could probably see a lot of the Collegiate Peaks to the West.

Thanks... I guess it depends more on one's perspective. We were thinking of other basins or locations where you would be so close to so many. Appreciate the feedback!

South Colony Lakes, Lake Como, Navajo Basin, and Kite Lake all stand out for their proximity to multiple 14ers.

Several very reachable places in the middle of the Elks let you see all seven Elk fourteeners plus the centennials pretty close up -- Buckskin Benchmark near Buckskin Pass (esp. good views of Snowmass and North Maroon) and Belleview Mtn near W Maroon Pass (esp. good views of Maroon and Pyramid) jump to mind. I'm sure there are others. And Elks > Sawatch for visual thrills.

There are points and places in the Crested Butte area where you can see the Elk peaks, a few Sawatch Peaks, and Unc & Wetterhorn in the San Juans.

^ Same with several peaks in the southern Sawatch, which is cool.
