Partner for Castle/Conundrum 7/19-20 or 7/26-27

Post by TheAnalogKid »

I'm planning to hike Castle and Conundrum later this month. I've hiked 32 14ers, mostly class 1 and 2s, and none in the Elks. Would prefer a partner for my first peaks in this Range.

Haven't done these either but pretty sure I could do either weekend. Were you going to do both in one day?

Yes, am hoping to. Conundrum only half mile or so from Castle.

Already done these, but figured I would throw out some beta that might be helpful. The easiest way to do Conundrum is to do Castle first, so I would recommend doing both if possible. Additionally, I would strongly advise going back over castle on the way down. The shortcut down from the saddle is pretty nasty/loose and dangerous. You will be much better off just gaining the elevation and descending the standard route on Castle.

Our group of three will be climbing those on Wednesday, July 30. Sorry I know that's not the dates you want but if you want to join us you are welcome to. 4am start, standard route.
We are all getting near finishing the list of 58. Did Castle years ago but didn't get Conundrum that day.
Let me know if you have any interest.
Good idea doing these before you try the Bells, Pyramid, Snowmass, or Cap, by the way.

Thanks for the beta on these peaks. I've heard it's much better to go back over Castle on way down, so will definitely plan to do that.

Unfortunately need to work on July 30, otherwise would love to join. If something changes and I free up, will let you know.

Hi! I just stumbled across your post. I'm looking to hike these on the 18th! Would you want to join? I know it's a day earlier than you originally hoped. These will be peaks 39 and 40 for me!

Work keeps getting in the way... am pretty much limited to weekends for July and early August, unfortunately. LMK if you decide to go Sat/Sun instead.

Hey There!

I could potentially be down. I've also never been on one of the Elks and would love to hit up C&C some time this year (I've done 22 so far).

My main curiosity would be which TH you are planning to start at? I have low 2WD vehicle so the furthest up I could go would be the Castle Creek TH, which makes it a much longer day than a hike from the 4WD TH.

2nd question is are you planning on camping or day hiking?

I think I can make either weekend work, though if it would be this weekend it'd need to know pretty soon to get my schedule in order.

Great! I have a Subaru Wilderness with decent clearance so am hoping to get a mile or so up the road to campsite 6 or 7. Still makes for a very long day, so am thinking 4 a.m. start or so. Weekend of 7/26-27 is looking better for me.
