Finally Finished the 58!! - DiamondCutter

Post by DiamondCutter »

Happy to say that I've finished the list of 58 14ers. I finished on north Maroon last week and it was in great condition with even better weather. It took me 4 attempts to bag North Maroon (2 failed ski attempts with it getting too warm with avy danger, and 1 failed fall attempt with an iced up chimney). I started on 2012 when I moved to Denver, and had only about 12 more to go when I moved to Albuquerque in 2017. I did about 1 or 2 each year as time allowed while also focusing on other mountains and starting a family. Finishing as a dad at 38 years old isn't quite the original goal of completing them all before I was 30, but I stuck with it and loved the journey the whole way. I still have the Maroon Traverse to do to complete the list of the 4 traverses, and I still would like to snowboard at least a few more of them, so I'm happy to say that my 14er adventures are far from over. Shout out to this site and the many people I climbed with along the way and for all the useful info that I've found on this site. Keep being rad, 14ers.com, I appreciate you!

Congratulations! North Maroon is a great finisher. I can relate to being a dad and having to slow down the peakbagging pace. But the adventures are still fun whenever I can get ‘em! And maybe your kids’ll join you, too!

OUTSTANDING, BRANDON!!!!!!

Very inspiring! Don't feel bad about being 38. I just got my 10th on Saturday, and I'm 54!

Nice job. Congratulations! I hear you about taking a few times to get a peak or two. There were many times after flying out and setting myself up only to be thwarted by thunderstorms or some other issue having to do another trip just to get the same peak.

Excellent! It took me 5 tries to ski off Mt Baker in the cascades so I really feel that "FINALLY!" But the best feeling is knowing you made the right decision those other times so you could make it back! I got my first 14er in my twenties skiing off Quandary in Winter (what a start!) and now in my 50s I've got only 16 left...but it's not a race, it is a lifelong journey! Congrats to you!

Congratulations, Brandan!!!
Climbing the 14ers is a great journey
On failed attempts, a friend of mine always called them recon missions, gathering Intel. Sometimes they can be real character builders. If you are lucky you may get to do them all again with the kids.
