"The love of wilderness is more than a hunger for what is always beyond reach; it is also an expression of loyalty to the earth, the earth which bore us and sustains us, the only home we shall ever know, the only paradise we ever need – if only we had the eyes to see." -Ed Abbey

When I'm out there at night, I feel close to my own body, I can feel my blood moving, my skin and my fingernails, everything, it's like I'm full of electricity and I'm glowing in the dark—I'm on fire almost—I'm burning away into nothing—but it doesn't matter because I know exactly who I am." from The Things They Carried

Re: 2026 Goals
If all goes according to plan, I will finish the Sawatch Range before 2026, leaving most of the Sangres, Elks, and San Juans. I'd like to finish 2026 with the Sangre's done, and hopefully the Elks too.

Re: 2026 Goals
Finish the 8 14ers I have left and reach 150 13er summits, (currently at a 50/58, 140 split.) Past year slowed me down due to a ruptured Achilles and a torn Penoreal tendon 7 months later. I was going to go for a 6,000M peak here in Chili, but I will save it for another year when I am at 100 percent (currently at only 55-60 percent recovered.)

2026 Wish List:
https://www.summitpost.org/2026-wish-list/1098120
I was laid off from my job on 12/11/2025 though so have no idea how that will effect things. Unfortunately in 2025 I had too much time on my hands (not enough projects available) and would rather be busier at work.

I'm old, slow and fat. Unfortunately, those are my good qualities.

Re: 2026 Goals
With 2025 climbing wrapped up, I'm finally coming in late to the party with my 2026 list.
1. Have some great adventures in the mountains! (recycled from last year and helps redeem even non-summit days)
2. Finish Lap 2 of the 14ers. (Need Culebra and Capitol - both eyeing winter possibilities; plus the Eolus pair and a finish on San Luis)
3. Reach Half-Frozen Finisher status. (I'm realizing how crazy long it might take to be a fully Frozen Finisher at the pace I go but I at least want to get a couple more so I can be a Half-Frozen Finisher and may or may not try to go all the way. Queue eye rolls from some; chuckles from a few and ego flare-ups from a couple...)
4. Get more 13er snowflakes (as well as 13ers throughout the year). (Just realized last winter was so 14er focused that I only got 1 13er flake in - while I may go for a little more for 14ers - see 2 and 3 above - I want to shake it up a little in the winters at the start and end up 2026).
5. Get more efficient at camping - especially winter camping. (killed my 2025 finale with a 53lbs pack - gotta figure out how to make that lighter and still thrive with temperatures in the teens)
6. Try to be less of a hermit hiker. (Barely reached the 50/50 mark in 2025; want to drop it clearly below 50% for 2026)
