Amazing community on Longs Peak this morning - THANK YOU!

I summitted Longs Peak just after 8am today and I just gotta say - WOW! I am was blown away by the overall trail etiquette and encouragement that was all over the mountain this morning. Folks from all different ages, backgrounds, fitness abilities, etc. just seemed super conscientious and supportive of one another. I didn't know what to expect because I know this 14er can be quite crowded -- and it was! -- but I really got the sense that everyone was looking out for each other. Longs is my first of the 2026 season, 41/58, and I have absolutely encountered great folks on every mountain! Today was special though. I know it's cheesy, but felt compelled to share. I was up there with my 12-year-old son on Thursday, and I think we talked with you at the summit. Anyway, I wholeheartedly agree with your comments. Everyone we encountered on the route that day was incredibly courteous. The descent through the Trough felt very safe; I don’t even recall a single rock being knocked down, which means everyone was being meticulous about their steps and sacrificed speed for group safety.

The last time I climbed Longs was almost twenty years ago, back when it was rare to see anyone wearing a helmet along the Keyhole Route. Yesterday, almost every climber had one on.

The entire day honestly restored some of my faith in humanity.

I remember you both! We agreed that hiking a 14er is often easier than one day of working in education.. lol. Bravo to your young son for another big climb!

Interesting, yea, when we climbed it first time, don't think anyone wore a helmet and few people used poles (they were still considered a very Euro-centric thing).
