Just here to commiserate. After going through several pairs of the TX4s over the years, I just purchased the TX4 EVO with low expectations. I do own & quite like the TX hike, but don't prefer them for scrambles. Also own the TX4 Mid, which I haven't seen discontinued yet (?)... not as good as the TX4 IMO: less nimble, lacing is finicky, they eat scree, and give me blisters if I don't tape my heels. But better than TX hike for scrambles.

Did you have the older version to compare to, or another scrambling shoe you could make a comparison to? How do they scramble. I agree with the online consensus that they are narrower and stiffer. Stiffer might not be a bad thing (prior version softened quite a bit) but the new foot shape is not great for my foot. I initially went up half a size in the TX4 EVO, but shouldn't have; the stiff platform and slightly oversized fit weren't a good combo for knees/shins. I exchanged them for my usual size and am a few miles in but will probably end up returning as well if they don't soften enough to feel wider. (Hopefully REI doesn't drop my membership...) I feel your pain, OP. Have you had any luck sourcing secondhand TX4s in good condition off eBay, FB marketplace, etc.? That's my go-to for footwear in the last few years, actually, since I prefer older/discontinued models of so many things...
