Engineer Pass (Mineral Creek) Improvements/Closure

There are so many old roads between Silverton and Lake City and I think it would make sense to keep some "wild" for the ATV crowd and others accessible for the general public to use for transportation - from Silverton to Lake City, and to key wilderness areas. Long gone are the days when I could take the alpine loop (either Engineer or Cinnamon) in a Gen 2 Rav4, and the Stony Pass road, which used to be mellow, is now something I don't want to take my Forester up.

I don't think those of use who want to access these wilderness areas to hike and climb peaks should need a jeep or similar for access to the trailheads. I'm thinking of an arrangement where some trails are designated "ATV only" while ATVs are prohibited from others. Perhaps the Alpine loop is no longer a loop, but the Engineer side for ATVs and the Cinnamon side for traditional vehicles? There is no perfect solution, but I think some distinctions along this line could help with everyone's overall experience and help the towns manage their road maintenance budgets.
