Halfmoon Road for Elbert's standard route is open again. Massive TH is still closed. Fire is 80% contained.

Here's the order:

I actually can't tell if the SW Slopes route on Massive is in this closure or not. Looks close to me.

Anyone have information about when Owl Creek Pass might open?

Hoping to get into Wetterhorn Basin before the snow flies.

Officially open - the SE slopes TH is blocked off, ribbon blocking the trail, etc. Signage saying the SW Slopes route is the only option right now. North Halfmoon TH indeed was good to go. (This is as of 9/5 when I was back there).

I'm not optimistic it'll be any time soon. I would love to be proven wrong, but that area was well within the burn area and I suspect took a lot of damage - even after it is done burning, I suspect the roads and such are not in good shape. First hand info welcome!

A friend said they heard a rumor that "the Cimarrons will be open soon." I'm taking that with a grain of salt, based on the current closure order from Aug 25 in effect through Dec 1.

Starting today (9/15) there are significant reductions in the Elk and Gold Mountain Fire closures. The Elk Fire had all closures lifted entirely, while the Gold Mountain Fire now only has closures on the affected roads and trails. Places like Owl Creek Pass, Silverjack, West and East Fork roads/trails are now all open.
