Sorry... still don't see anything that says he summitted K2 even once, let alone three times. What years were they?

i am sorry about the america comment, but i just really don't understand why you people would think i am lieing and making things up for no reason. do you need to pick on someone at least once a day on this site?

camillo is my friend i have sat around camp fires with him listening to his amazing stories about all of the peaks he's climbed. why would i lie?

do you feel threatened by anyone whose accomplished something greater than yourself?
Sorry, I'll stop. This Camillo fellow is a good climber for sure. I am not - for sure. But it's hard for me to let such an asinine comment like "he's climbed K2 3 times" go. This is just totally not true. He has never been on the summit of K2. Such accomplishments are so newsworthy that they could not be kept hush-hush even if one wanted to. (Let alone three summits - the only person in the world ever to do so.) I can see that one of his team members, a Fernando Gonzalez-Rubio, did make the summit in '04.

Again, Camillo is a very good climber, but it is absolutely ridiculous to state that he has climbed K2 three times.

then that's your fault for not being able to navigate a website...

and i'm not arguing about this any longer.

it's not like i am saying that i climbed these mountains, but camillo is a great climber and a great person and i still don't understand why you people would need to mock him or me, but that's fine.

i was only trying to give advice to the person who started this thread by telling them that camping is possible as long as you have the right equipment.

and i gave camillo as an example.

jeez, so so so touchy or your all just very bored and need to argue inconsequentially with someone.

I guess that makes two of us if you can't tell me what years he summitted.

Did you look on the main page?

Come on dude give her a break, it is a simple comment about a tent not about her friend's accomplishments.

But the K2 part is on the home page in the scroll down screen

So we're in agreement then. Camillo never reached the summit but his team mate Fernando Gonzalez-Rubio did.
Update: Fernando did it solo (he had no team members on the summit push) AND without oxygen!! great great news for him, and Colombia!

Fernando is on his way back to Skardu, he was in Paiju yesterday and should be traveling to Askoli today. He was trekking back with Carlos and Iñaki Ochoa. Apparently there is a big backlog of porters and all his equipment is still at base camp.

Update: On Thursday we received word that Fernando Gonzalez-Rubio had made it down to Base camp, completing a remarkable summit of K2! We are still awaiting word on others coming down...

I'm pretty sure that a guy as hard as he is would be sporting scibbins. :D

Incidentally, I found a link from the Himilayan Database that recorded all successful ascents of K2 from 1954 through March of 2007, and Camilo Lopez was nowhere to be found on that list, although his partner Fernando Gonzales-Rubio was. Maybe he meant he's climbed ON K2 3 times?
