We did it on the cheap, flew into Mexico city, bus to Puebla and Tlachichuca, then used the Conchales? family to ferry us up to the hut. 2 days acclimating and hiking around from there, then a summit day. You don't need a guide if you've done non beginner couloirs. But I'd say about half the climbers there had them. Just be prepared for the altitude, I used Diamox and was very glad I did.

Maybe it's changed recently but when we were there there was no long conga line of climbers. Just maybe a half a dozen at the same time we were climbing up.
