Elbert East or Elbert SE?

Post by Dark Helmet »

Trying to pick which approach to take on Saturday. Biggest concerns are trail CONDITION, Views/scenery, and a little solitude...

I'm leaning towards The East approach from the top of 125B just because it's a bit shorter and I only have 1 day to acclimate.

Thoughts/Ideas?

trail CONDITION
There is no trail up the Southeast Ridge (except for high on the ridge if you come from Black Cloud). The East Ridge has a good trail.
Views/scenery,
As far as scenery goes, any route on Elbert is going to be typical Sawatch. In other words; nice, but not dramatic as far as mountain scenery goes.
a little solitude...
The Southeast route is going to have more solitude since there is no trail.
I'm old, slow and fat. Unfortunately, those are my good qualities.
