AT boot help?

Post by oldschoolczar »

Hey, wondering if anyone could help me here.

I have an AT setup, but recently purchased a cheap used alpine ski/binding to mess around with.

I have Scarpa Freedom SL that have interchangeable soles (AT Vibram soles or Alpine plastic soles). I'm wondering if the alpine sole will work in my non-tech (non-pin) AT binding. I have the Marker F12s. Not sure if the sole height is different or something. It's just a huge pain in the ass to swap these soles back and forth, so if the alpine sole would work in both the AT and alpine binding I'd save myself a lot of trouble!

I know this is a pretty specific questions, but can't find the damn answer anywhere!

Do you have the F12s that say "SOLE.ID" on them? If so, you're good-to-go with Alpine boots (ISO 5355), you just have to adjust the toe height of the toe gliding plate, using the Marker paper thingy or make your own.

Even if you have the original, green F12s, I believe they still have the same functionality but without that SOLE.ID stamping.

Thanks Bill! That gives me enough to do some Google fu.

I do have the old green ones. They gotta be 5-6 years old. This is my last season on them, but they’ve been great bindings for my one ski quiver.

Ok, I had a pair of those and wore alpine boots on occasion. Check to see if the toe plate slides when pushed. If so, it would also have a philips toe adjustment screw on the front, bottom of the truck piece.

Simply adjust the toe height with your alpine boots by putting a couple of sheets of paper between the boot toe and glide plate. Turn screw to raise or lower the glide plate until you can tug the upper sheet of paper out with light resistance.
