My wife and I are hoping to get some help selecting a backpacking trip in two weeks. Spent the winter making a nice list of potential trips, and of course they’re all still under snow!
For this trip, we’d like to hike one or two fairly easy days to a basecamp and then spend a few nights there while we dayhike surrounding trails. About 10-20 miles and <4,000 feet total elevation gain is our realistic limit. Ideally not much mud, and within 6 hours of Fort Collins.
Anything come to mind?
Btw here’s what I’ve found on my own so far while scrolling around caltopo with the new weekly satellite layer.
Pine Lake in Collegiate Peaks
Lake Ann in Collegiate Peaks
The Sangres appear almost melted out and most of the lakes would make for two travel days given the steep inclines. If there's a place to camp partway up, and enough accessible terrain to explore while at the lake, this might be a good area. Can those criteria be met though?
Lost Creek Wilderness...not sure which trails yet but the entire area seems to have a lot of potential
Thank you in advance for any ideas, we really appreciate it!
