Hi!
My wife and I moved to Colorado last December and decided we wanted Longs Peak to be our first Colorado 14er. We come from the Pacific Northwest and gained mountaineering skills through the Spokane Mountaineers of Washington.
We had a successful summit of Longs Peak on Memorial Day and had the entire peak to ourselves. We didn't see anybody else on the route until we descended past the Key Hole, and then only a few. We had perfect weather going up and returned in time to our car right as a big hail thunderstorm hit. Conditions were pretty icy necessitating crampons and ice axes past the Key Hole. The Ledges and Narrows held a lot of ice covered rocks with fresh snow on top. The snow was very stable going up the Trough.
We really enjoyed this route, especially past the Key Hole... just beautiful!

Congratulations on a successful first summit! Your photos are incredible, looks like it was a spectacular day! Longs is a beast in technical conditions but has the added benefit of not dealing with the usual conga line of people. I’m sure your experience on the PNW glaciers served you well. Nice work!
