New to Colorado Longtime Hiker

Post by HoneyBadgerOG »

Hello Everyone,

My name is Olivia (35) and I just moved out to Colorado from DC. Previous to that, I was a beach bum in FL, oh and also an avid sailor.
I plan on doing the 14ers this year and am looking for good hiking buddies. Just as a note. I did have a thought time acclimating as I came from below sea level. However, in the month and a half that I've been here I think I've climatized. My heart rate is much better then when I first arrived, I still need a 2 to 3 min break every 30 min or so just to catch my breath. I usually have the weekend free and I get out of work at 2pm (remote worker, gotta love the time difference) and I normally hike Morrison every Mon, Wen, Fri for about 3 hours. If any one wants to join me or has a better idea, I'm down. Oh, and I'm also looking to venture out to Alaska in the, fingers crossed, near future.

Sincerely,

Olivia G

Olivia

I am going to maybe hike Green Mtn with Cardgenius this saturday morning? have you been there? I maligned it for years - just thought it was big green lump compared to the cooler foothills. but now i value it and consider it vital part of my routine!

Keep looking up - Jack Horkheimer

I would recommend Bear Peak or South Boulder Peak in Boulder if you want to step up the intensity from Morrison. Both get you close to 3kft over a relatively short distance.

Those are both solid for a change up but repeats on Morrison I find more 'intense' since the top has some easy scrambling so doing repeats gets you comfortable in that terrain.

I agree with Mt. Morrison being a great repeat. Its a quick way to get in hiking shape. The first half is a thigh burner. The scramble can be tackled in a few areas for variety and improving your skills.
- I didn't say it was your fault. I said I was blaming you.

I also like Mt. Morrison! I always call it “a mini 14er” .

Too funny! Except for the altitude, I think its a tougher workout than some 14ers.

The first steep part was surprising to me , and platforms one after another, scramble and last push ….. :)

+1 ON Bear peak recommendation.
I would hike that after work, and experience wonderful sunsets from the summit.

Hello Jibber,

My car is getting repaired. I expect to get it back the 1st of April. I have not been to Green Mountain. I've only so far been up Morrison. My google voice # is (720) 515-1770‬. Please let me know if you guys are planning another trip and need a hiking buddy.

Hi, Olivia, and welcome to Colorado! I'm sure you'll love it here.

For meeting new folks, the happy hour meetups are a great opportunity, so just wanted to recommend that you keep an eye on those and attend any if you are able to do so. I know CO Springs, Castle Rock, and Fort Collins are all on a monthly meetup schedule, and I think I read that Boulder is every other month.

So, just wanted to throw that out there.

Happy hiking!

Hi Olivia,
I’m looking for hiking gal friends this summer. I’m 35 and in decent shape although not a super quick hiker. I have done 36 of the 14ers and really want to knock some more out in a July. Message me if you’re interested! Here’s what I’m hoping to do some of this summer:
1. All the Elks
2 Wilson group
3. Chicago Basin group
4. Lindsey/blanca/ellingwood/little bear
5. Crestone needle/challenger/kit Carson
