Cristo Couloir this Sunday/Skiing Partners

Post by pjk120 »

With spring upon us, I've been stoked to get out and do some couloir lines.

It's my first backcountry season, and I was looking to potentially get my first couloir ski in this weekend. I've heard Cristo is a great place to start, but not sure about the conditions. With the freezing level being 12,500 feet on Saturday night, I'm not sure if it's viable to do that route on Sunday morning with how shitty the snow conditions lower down might be.

Any knowledge/recommendations on this or other routes? I'm stoked to get out there but I don't want to force it if it's just gonna be a lousy time.

On a similar note, I'm always looking for people to meet up and ski with, so if anyone is down for some spring skiing just let me know! I'm fairly new to the whole backcountry skiing thing but I have been mountaineering for a few years, resort skiing for 2 years, and have spent a lot of time in the mountains. AIARE 1 course completed this year as well.

As of current forecast I'm less worried about wet snow and more about the opposite - moderate cloud cover and breezy through the morning turning into light snow by afternoon meaning upper 1k+ feet probably will be bulletproof lemon zester corn all day. If you can ski textured ice, go for it, at least you won't have to worry about wet slides.
