Little Bear. Time is tight in the hour glass.

Post by catfish hank »

Looking at the forecast, NOAA shows this upcoming weekend storm dropping est 8-15 inches of snow. Weather relaxes after that with stable wind conditions. The hour glass might be in (this year it is like threading a needle) and if so this would be my preferred route so long as the new snow doesn't present unacceptable slide risks. If anyone else is up for venturing up there PM me. Thinking of a Tuesday ascent to let fresh snow layer consolidate a bit.

Hello.

Another climber and I were hoping to do this route in snow next weekend. Not sure if you found a partner but you are welcome to join us if you don’t go Tuesday and if you do go we’d be very interested in a conditions report. He was going to be in the area this weekend and will be checking snow conditions out hopefully.

I attempted this peak last year in snow at this exact time of year but had to turn around at the base of the hourglass due to time constraints. I have 3 left and plan to finish this year. If we don’t get this in spring, we are looking to get it via the alternative instead of the hourglass in the next couple of months. Happy to keep you informed as those plans evolve if we don’t get this in the next couple of weeks.

We aren’t super fast but we are cautious and safe.

PM me if interested in chatting.

Tricia
It’s not who you think you are that holds you back; it’s who you think you’re not.

Hi Tricia. i think it might have been your conditions report last year that convinced me to plan this trip earlier. I can definitely update you with any conditions. i am not sire the mtm got good snow this weekend. Ute Creek SNOTEL is reporting low snow while. South Colony good . I guess i will find out soon. I too am not as fast in the mountains as ii used to be but consider my pace deliberate i guess. D
