What are you favorite Sawatch 13ers
I have a week off the second week in July and would like to do some camping and climbing in Sawatch range. With that, looking for your favorite 13ers in that range.

Ouray has a nice approach, and fairly remote and straightforward climb.

I climbed Fancy Peak, 13,176', last year from Missouri Lakes Trailhead and really enjoyed it. The hike to Fancy Pass is rewarding with lovely views towards Missouri Pass, and the climb up Fancy is a steady incline, but nothing beyond C2+ as I recall.

Depends exactly what you're looking for. If you want a scramble, the Williams ridge is probably the best in the range. The Senawee/Pomeroy quartet is up there as well.
If you're looking for backpacking, probably something in the Holy Cross vicinity is your best bet. The lakes below 13,002 are unique and backpackable, and you can make 13,002 as hard or probably easy as you'd like.

Plans at the moment are setting up a base camp somewhere and just doing day hikes not backpacking. Trying to keep routes C3 and below since I'll be solo.

Traversing the Three Apostles is an awesome day out. Only a little C3 on Ice.
Otherwise, agreed the HC Wilderness is special. Fancy is awesome, and if you have the legs for it, a big day taking the ridge to Savage is very rewarding.

For the Sawatch in general, I think Holy Cross Wilderness and Hunter-Fryingpan Wilderness are the top spots. Part of the Collegiate Peaks Wilderness, in particular the areas accessed from Lincoln Creek.

+1 to all of these, though I found the Billy Traverse to be overrated. I'll elicit more raised eyebrows by saying I liked Finnegan a lot more than I should have given its abysmal reputation. Finnegan's summit scramble was spicy and rad. Eric's suggestion of 13,002 is another one that's grown on me.Chicago Transplant wrote: ↑Tue Jun 24, 2025 11:21 am For the Sawatch in general, I think Holy Cross Wilderness and Hunter-Fryingpan Wilderness are the top spots. Yeah, I liked Finnegan's ridge as well, the slope to get to it from NY Lake not so much, but if people can stomach the steep loose slope the ridge is really fun! I need to go repeat that someday.supranihilest wrote: ↑Tue Jun 24, 2025 11:40 am+1 to all of these, though I found the Billy Traverse to be overrated.
