Fall bike-packing and Elk 14er trip

Post by Smitty79 »

Hello all,

I’m planning a fall trip where I’ll be biking from Eagle, Colorado to Aspen to summit the 7-14ers in the Elk range. I’m hoping to do this in a 1.5-2 week window most likely at the end of September or early October depending on weather. I’m planning on taking the bike path to Glenwood and then head south on the Rio grande trail to Aspen and returning the same way (~75miles one way). This trip is to celebrate my 20th year in Colorado and also to try and complete a few 14ers without the car. Anyone want to join or maybe join for a peak or two? Castle and Conundrum will most likely be done last because they are not as technical. The Bells and Pyramid will most likely be done over two days from a base camp in that valley. Capital and Snowmass will be done as a two day loop from snowmass village. Any advice or encouragement is greatly appreciated. I’m hoping to focus on The Sangres in the meantime. Have a great summer everyone!
